Decentraland is a distributed Shared virtual platform. On this platform, users can browse and discover content and interact with other people and entities. Users can also claim ownership of virtual territories through a blockchain-based land ledger. A domain is defined by rectangular coordinates (X,Y), and its owner can determine what is published on the domain, from static 3D scenes to interactive systems such as games.
The territory is an irreplaceable, transferable and rare digital asset stored in the ethereum smart contract, which can be purchased in tokens called MANA ERC20. MANA can also be used to buy digital goods and services in virtual worlds.
People are spending more and more time in the virtual world for both entertainment and work, but these activities are mainly conducted in 2D interfaces, such as web pages and smartphones, while 3D world adds an immersive element and brings content closer together, allowing different communities to come together more realistically.
Different from other virtual worlds and social networks, Decentraland are not subject to the centralized control of the organization. No single agent has the power to change its software rules, land content, or currency, nor to prevent others from entering the virtual world.
